THE MOSCOW TIMES

Auction has ended

In the series of objects «Wares. New Arrivals», 2016, Anatoly Osmolovsky borrows the forms of the towers of tanks of those countries that only recently had their first models: India, China, Turkey, Poland. This is the only selection criterion. Osmolovsky was a radical actionist in the 1990's, and in the 2000s he turned to formal searches and began to speak in favor of the autonomy of art from politics. In the presented series, the towers of tanks, simplified and freed from their implements, resemble abstract sculptures. Unlike an aircraft whose functionality depends on the external structure, the towers of tanks may have more free configurations. Osmolovsky explores how the avant-garde heritage, embedded in the basis of industrial design, influences the thinking of engineers at the subconscious level. The artist turns the symbols of aggression into conditional forms, objects of art, leveling their purpose, state belonging. The towers of Osmolovsky tanks have no guns, they have nothing to shoot. Art disarms, opening new views on things, finding new ways of interaction. V
