Only the past
In the framework of the “Artist of the Week” program, VLADEY introduces an exhibition of tapestries by Zhenya Machneva “Only the past”.
The works are brought together by the central theme of industrial decline. Machneva was born in Leningrad and grew up in St. Petersburg during Perestroika, when factories and plants ceased their work and began to turn into large abandoned spaces. These “shatters of industry” familiar to us from the childhood are still an integral part of urban landscapes, but gradually they disappear or take on a new life in the form of modern lofts. Machneva creates a new industrial aesthetics, documenting the images of the past in the laborious technique of tapestry weaving.
