This artwork represents Shablavin’s main motif for research: his interest in optical illusions and light. At the center of the painting a frontal figure of a hockey player, which stands in contrast to the inscription, deformed by perspective - which makes the composition seem more dynamic. The light source is located behind the figure, making the player look sketch-like, a line of light appearing around it. An ice blue colour is used in the background. By correlating the inscription and the image, Shablavin invents a conceptual game: the curve above the letter “й” becomes a hockey puck and that way, a word plays the role of the significant and of the signified. V
