In her artworks Olga Florenskaya is mixing aesthetics of hand-made posters and folk amateur painting. An important source of images for the artist has become her own collection of old handmade signboards. It is from this amateur aesthetics that Florenskaya got inspired with bright colours, usage of wide surfaces, simple figures, ornaments, adding fonts to the images, local folklore and folksy humour. The format of this artwork reminds us of a shop-window or tavern sign. There is a hero from Russian fairy tales depicted on it – a bear and his attribute – a snag, and the comical tiny fir-tree is probably a symbol of the “dark woods”. Each figure is inscribed at the underneath with tidy circular letters. A “Russian scarecrow from a restaurant” welcomes all the guests with a bottle of the famous Soviet Port Wine №33 and fruits as a starter. V
