“The World Needs You, Mukhomor!” artwork refers to early period of artistic works of the group, the period they were asserting themselves as a brand new, outstanding part of Moscow art world, so in history of arts. The group was always inclined to ironic self-promotion, so called self-PR nowadays. They invented many of the very basis of show business though it hadn’t existed yet. This artwork became significant in many aspects. It was reproduced many times and displayed as one of the symbols of the group.
“Mukhomor” started their art career with group artwork and then were writing texts and making paintings together many times: one was making contours, other was painting and the third one was writing letters. They swap with each other and were creating incredible atmosphere, giving this energy to each other and people beside them.
“The World Needs You, Mukhomor!” is not only strong self-confidence which is so important to the artist. This is also the shortest manifest of the group and it was differing from the other representatives of the Moscow conceptual art by its striving of actual art to be understandable to the “world” and people. And finally they prove it. The “Golden Disk” created by the group became the thing “world needed”, it was copied thousand times all over the country and then all over the world including people who had no any interest in art.
Small “case size” of the artwork is explained by carrying it in the case for being demonstrated by “Mukhomor” to their future colleagues: Rimma and Valery Gerlovin, Andrey Monastyrsky, Ilya Kabakov and others. This case has become the first exhibition space of the art group and Moscow conceptualists were completely amazed by this way of demonstration of artworks.
Since then “The World Needs You, Mukhomor” were exhibited and reproduced in catalogues and press numerous times, also was at safe custody at Tretyakov Gallery for some time and was exhibited within the museum program. It took part in Moscow Biennale of Contemporary Art at the special project of “The History of APART Gallery” (E.K.ArtBureau, Moscow, 2005), within Europalia Festival “Angels of History” project (M HKA, Antwerpen, 2005). At the exhibitions “After Act. Moscow Conceptual School and Its Context. 70-80s of XX century”. (EKATERINA Cultural Foundation, Moscow, 2010 and Calvert 22 Foundation, London, 2011). V
