A nonconformist artist. He found his character in 1960 – the «mug» – has been working with it since then: he has a low forehead, a massive chin, small eyes, an elephant body. This thing is something that is hidden inside us under the «human face». Uses Rembrandt's multi-layer technique in painting, due to which he gets a deep color glowing from the inside. Works are in the State Tretyakov Gallery, the Hermitage.
