Artist
Yevgeny Rukhin 1943–1976
Painter-nonconformist. One of the Bulldozer Exhibition (1974) initiators. Combined abstraction, icon painting traditions, everyday motives. Geologist by education, he was interested in material layering. Used rough canvas and burlap, layered paint for texture, collages of paper and fabric or found objects. He anticipated the motives of pop art and conceptualism. Works are in the Tretyakov Gallery, the Russian Museum.
